In 2023, Finland Announced to Accept 1050 Refugees

Based on United Nations’ quota, Finland authorities have declared accepting 1050 refugees in 2023.

As per a report by SchengenVisaInfo.com, Finland will welcome refugees mainly from Afghanistan, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to a joint statement from the ministers of the Interior and Justice of Finland, “the nation will accept Syrian refugees from Turkey and Lebanon (420), Afghan refugees from Iran (210), Congolese refugees from Zambia (160) under refugee quota for 2023. Moreover, Finland will also accept 30 stateless refugees along with 130 refugees that were evacuated to Rwanda from Lybia.”

In recent times, the Finnish government disclosed that the nation is actively making new modifications to the Aliens Act to extend the temporary safety of Ukraine people living in Finland.

Finland’s Ministry of Interior already addressed remarks on the temporary protection draft for Ukrainians living in Finland.

The statement also clarified that Finland’s proposal to the UN Refugee Agency is used as a basis for the refugee quota. Concurrently, the Nordic nation will continue accepting refugees from the same categories.

Further, Finland persuaded other member states of the EU to be involved in accepting refugees under the quota. The European Commission also supports the action through the Integration, Migration, and Asylum quota. However, the Commission stated that it would pay €10,000 for every refugee accepted under the quota.

In European countries, the migration situation is one of the most discussed issues while authorities in those nations are regularly trying to find new methods to deal with the present situation.

As per the European Commission’s latest report in relation to asylum and migration, the migration asylum pact’s adoption is one of the key factors that will lead to a lasting process of asylum and migration.

Margaritis Schinas, EU’s VP, emphasized that the EU has always displayed collective political will and combined strength to take instant actions when being subject to similar events.

In this regard, Schinas also laid focus on the point that “Outside the EU, determined and united EU action can bring impressive results.”

He further added that the EU should inspire future actions by continuing to show the kind of solidarity for the migration debate within the bloc that it showed to Ukrainians.
