Liz Truss Quits – Becomes the Shortest Ruling Prime Minister of the UK

During her chaotic and brief tenure, Liz Truss announced a massive tax cut package that was left unfunded. Soon, she rolled back her decisions due to market rout. After spending just 44 days in the office, Liz Truss quits as the UK PM. This makes her the shortest-ruling PM in British history.
However, she doesn’t immediately step down from the position. Instead, she will continue serving the office until the Conservative Party finds a successor. And this process will likely take a week.
When she gained power in early September, she promised an all-out push for growth. However, the decision didn’t appeal to the financial markets as they doubted how Liz would pay to achieve the economic plans. Such concerns led to both gilts and the pound tanking.
Her departure has caused significant damage to the ruling Conservative Party. The Party lost over 30 points behind Labour in the polls after being in power for 12.5 years. In less than 7 years, the party will have its fifth premier as the successor of Liz Truss since 2016.
In 2016, when the Brexit referendum took place, British politics went through unprecedented chaos.
