Are you planning to work in Portugal? The Portuguese government has good news for you. Establishing a new work visa for migrants planning to work in Portugal for size months gets a green light.
That’s not all. The government also announced abolishing the quota regime for migration. The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs has been long considering this quota as an anachronism, a report from SchengenVisaInfo.com states.

The minister said, “This [the measure] allows foreign nationals to enter Portuguese territory who have come looking for work for 120 days, extended to another 60 days, for a total of 180 days.” The minister also pointed out that the goal of this measure is to promote safe and regular migration.

The law proposed to amend the legal regime for migrants’ entry, stay, departure, and removal from the national territory also includes these measures. And, the measure has also got approval from the Council of Ministers.

WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) published an analysis, according to which there’s a considerable labour shortage in Portugal. As per the analysis, 85,000 travel and tourism jobs will remain unfulfilled in the travel and tourism sector by the end of 2022.

In addition, 193,000 more jobs will likely be created in the next decade to boost the national economy’s recovery. While the country’s GDP relies heavily on tourism, the pandemic damaged the economy.

A press release recently published by WTTC Economic Impact Report (EIR) forecast depicted the contribution of this sector to Portugal’s GDP for the next year. As per the report, the contribution could peak at around €39.5 billion accounting for 17.4% of the total economy.

Moreover, by the end of 2023, employment could also surpass the levels of 2019 in this sector. Over 3,200 more jobs will open to reach the peak of one million by that time.
EIR also reveals that the industry’s GDP in Portugal will likely rise by 3.4% on average over the next decade. This will be three times the 1.1% growth rate of the overall economy of the country. By 2032, the sector’s GDP is expected to cross the €50 billion mark (or 20.2%) of the total economy.
Besides, Portugal’s Golden Visa Program marked a surge of 94% in May, making it a real success. May observed an issue of 112 golden visas, wherein 93% were issued for real estate acquisition.
