Spring Break Still in Force – Tourism Gets a Boost

The joy of spring break isn’t over yet and there’s a rise in travellers during the season.
AAA states that the spike can be anticipated to stay here for the summers, which could significantly impact your wallet. "In fact, international travel we are seeing bookings up 200% compared to last year which is pretty substantial," as per Mark Schieldrop of AAA Northeast.

During the busy spring vacation season, demand has surged and local airports have started preparing for the traveller influx. More than 125,000 passengers are expected to leave Bradley International Airport by mid-April.

The most popular foreign travel locations this Spring are Europe and Canada. London tops the list with a 350% increase in travellers from the previous year. Shieldrop says, “Folks are worried about a recession, but travel is one of those things that people tend to budget for. So clearly there is still pent-up travel demand from the pandemic.”

According to AAA experts, this demand has led to a 30% rise in airfare. As more and more people plan trips, prices will continue to rise. And this trend does not appear to be slowing down.

The American Automobile Association advises purchasing travel insurance if you're planning a vacation to get covered for flight delays or cancellations. You can also get an early start on getting your passport, which can otherwise take 10-13 weeks to be issued due to the spike in demand for travel.
