The Netherlands Tops the List of Most Preferred Christmas Markets for 2022

The festive season is here again and people have started flocking to York, Lincoln, Winchester, and UK’s other historic cities. Once again, the masses will enjoy bratwursts and wine as well as keep an eye on sellers and markets to get holiday bargains.

Talking about the continent, the most renowned markets of Europe have also opened gates to shoppers after being cancelled for two years. Bookings, this year, are better and bigger than ever. But do you know which one tops the list of the most famous Christmas markets for 2022?

Loveholidays, an online travel agent, shared data about bookings for Christmas market destinations. In 2022, bookings surged by 29% for December as compared to the same month in 2019. This is a result of tourists returning to the marketplaces after the pandemic forced them to cancel their getaway plans for two years. And the destination on top of tourists’ minds for exploring the Christmas market is the Netherlands. The place has grabbed the much higher attention of visitors this year with bookings going up by 51% this December.

As per the analysis, the clear festive favourite is the renowned Ice Village Christmas market at the Museumplein in Amsterdam.
France takes the second spot with its primary markets in cities like Paris and Strasbourg. And, the Czech Republic is the third with its popular Prague market which got cancelled at the last moment in 2021.

Moreover, Poland and Hungary are the rest two in the top five with their renowned Krakow and Budapest markets. Bookings for these locations have surged by 5% and 66% respectively in December as compared to 2019. However, Germany that’s known as the Christmas market hotspot, is the sixth most famous place for this year.
